Lost in Yonkers will be performed as a Play Reading on Sunday, February 2nd at 4:00 PM.
Summary: The 1991 Pulitzer Prize winner for Drama, Lost in Yonkers tells the story of 15-year-old Jay Kurnitz and his 13-year-old brother Arty. After the death of their mother, their father Eddie takes a traveling sales job to pay off their medical debt, temporarily leaving the boys with their strict, stern Grandma Kurnitz and her daughter Aunt Bella. Grandma’s harsh upbringing of her own children has estranged all of them but Bella, who has the mind and emotions of a child despite being in her mid-30s. Jay and Arty’s presence rock Grandma’s harsh rules for living, while giving Bella purpose and a new hope for her future. A powerful and funny exploration of family, Lost in Yonkers is one of Neil Simon’s most acclaimed, heartfelt plays, as well as one of the wittiest.
All age groups will be considered for all rolls, the ages listed in the character descriptions are only suggestions.
Auditions:
Auditions will be held on Monday November 18th, from 6-9 PM. I would like to ask people to sign up for slots at either 6:00 PM, 6:30 PM, or 7:00 PM for the preliminary round (Limit 6 people per half hour.) Then at 7:30 PM we will take a short break before beginning callbacks, when I may ask actors to read again and pair them with others, or I may send actors home. I’d like to ask everyone to plan to stay until 9:00 PM unless they are released.
Audition sides will be sent to all those who sign up the week before auditions.
